Scented Textile Products for the Visually Impaired

Denizli Textile and Clothing Industrialists’ Association (DETGİS) President İsa Dal said that they produced scented bathrobes and embossed T-shirts for the visually impaired.

In a statement to the AA correspondent, Dal noted that they are working to enable the visually impaired to perceive the textile products to be worn, and that they produce scented bathrobes and embossed t-shirts in this context.

Expressing that visually impaired people can feel colors thanks to the products produced, Dal gave the following information:

“The embossed T-shirts we produce using scented bathrobes and Braille alphabet will make it easier for the visually impaired to choose products. The microcapsules in the bathrobe will explode when touched, and it will be understood what color the product is.

For example, when the smell of strawberry spreads, it will be understood that the product is red or pink, and when the smell of apples spreads, it will be understood that it is green. We also produced embossed t-shirts using the Braille alphabet. A visually impaired person will understand the color of these t-shirts from the reliefs.

This is a world first. Two weeks later, we will introduce the products we produce in a meeting in Switzerland with the participation of many visually impaired association presidents.”

Evteks Textile M.Sc. Engineer Senem Pak, who produces bathrobes and t-shirts specially prepared for the visually impaired, stated that products that are resistant up to 50 washes will help the visually impaired in choosing colors. Pak said, “The visually impaired will be able to understand the color of the product both by smelling and touching it.”
