Stating that bed sores occur after a while in patients hospitalized for a long time, Dal said that they started a project with Pamukkale University Textile Engineering R&D department in 2011 by making use of the “University-Industry Collaboration Support Program” of TUBITAK, and that as a result of studies that lasted for 4 years, pressure sores were found in bedridden patients. He said that they have developed a fabric that prevents the formation of

Pointing out that the fabric can be used as easily as a regular bed sheet, Dal said that thanks to the softness of the product, it prevents the wounds caused by friction.

Exported to USA and Europe
Emphasizing that they carried out the mass production of the bed sheet developed using this fabric type and exported it to the USA, Germany, Switzerland and Australia, Dal said:

“Because the bed sheet had to come into contact with the skin, our customers asked us to design it as a garment. We designed a special garment for bedridden patients in cooperation with the departments of Haliç University Textile and Fashion Design and School of Health Sciences. The main feature of the garment is that it helps prevent scarring at the points where it comes into contact with the skin. “This is the first time in the world that a garment has been designed with a fabric with this feature. Our garment is both stylish, ergonomic and functional. It also has pockets for a drainage bag.”

Noting that the product they developed is a concrete example of university-industry cooperation, Dal said, “There is a great advantage that academia and industry come together. Because the other side can see what one side cannot see. When both parties understand each other correctly, we can create innovative products.” said.

Stating that the fabric they developed is both an R&D product and a product that can be used in real life and commercialized, Dal stated that the bed sheet, which prevents the formation of wounds in bedridden patients, can be sold for approximately 10 times that of a normal sheet and creates added value.
